"Nairi: Tower of Shirin is an interactive narrative experience created by Dutch indie game developer HomeBearStudio and published by Hound Picked Games. This point-and-click adventure game, along with visual novel elements, made its debut on November 29, 2018, launching on both Windows and Nintendo Switch platforms.


Players step into the shoes of the game's central character, Nairi, and engage in a unique blend of storytelling. While the primary narrative unfolds through visual novel sequences, players are tasked with exploring various in-game locations, solving intricate puzzles, and combining objects to progress further. Throughout the adventure, players also have the opportunity to interact with other characters, delving deeper into the game's rich world and storyline. Gameplay:


Nairi is introduced as a young human girl residing in the affluent district of Shirin. Her life takes a dramatic turn when her tutor, a talking Raccoon, insists she must leave her home and never return. In her quest for answers, Nairi embarks on a journey that leads her from the upper echelons of Shirin to its less privileged districts, eventually culminating in her exploration of the enigmatic Tower, a place her friend Rex has been researching. Along this adventure, Nairi stumbles upon a magical ancient realm and discovers that her role in the unfolding events is more significant than she initially thought.

The game's development was made possible through a Kickstarter campaign in October 2016, attracting the support of 278 backers. The campaign exceeded its funding goal, raising a total of 8,253 €, surpassing the original target of 7,500 €. Josh van Kuilenburg took on the roles of writer, designer, and programmer for the game, while You Miichi handled the art, animation, and Japanese localization. Antonio Garcia contributed to dialogue content editing and Spanish localization. Moreover, the game underwent localization efforts to make it accessible to players in German, French, Italian, and Chinese. The art style of the game draws inspiration from the likes of Studio Ghibli, Disney, and Pixar.

On the Nintendo Switch platform, Nairi received mixed reviews on Metacritic. DualShockers' Ben Bayliss commended it as a brain-teasing experience and a charming journey, particularly praising the story, art, and Switch controls as the optimal way to enjoy the game. NintendoWorldReport appreciated the art, dialogue, and puzzles but expressed concerns about navigation complexity and wished for an in-game hint system. Nintendo Life referred to Nairi as a 'hidden gem,' celebrating its quirky characters and challenging puzzles. Adventure Gamers noted the game's adorable characters, beautiful art, and well-balanced puzzles but expressed disappointment with what they perceived as an abrupt ending."
